Manager Evaluation & Searches
Investment returns and risks are largely determined by asset allocation decisions. What starts out as a strategy, though, must be accurately implemented - searching for the appropriate money managers.

Citations from ERISA and Third Restatement case law often comment on the imprudence of fiduciaries that did not seek out money managers to invest their assets. Furthermore, an indication of the government's desire to have such decisions made by professionals is the inclusion of safe harbor rules governing the use of money managers. Under ERISA, these guidelines come close to providing an exculpatory clause for fiduciary conduct.

At Strategies LLC, we review and implement (if necessary) a search for money managers - both from a fiduciary aspect and their appropriateness within a portfolio or menu of investment options. Our due diligence process and search criteria incorporate many aspects. Some of the more common elements we apply are:

  • Portfolio statistical evaluation
  • Asset and style composition
  • Total fees - visible and hidden
  • Regression analysis - current and historical
  • Relative return and volatility breakdown
  • Organizational evaluation

To sum up, Strategies LLC has the expertise and capabilities to thoroughly evaluate money managers. It is not enough to simply review performance without a complete understanding of how that performance was derived. We provide the brainpower and tools so that institutional investors can make educated decisions about their money managers.
